After breakfast proceed to Kathmandu’s International Airport to board the Druk Air or Bhutan Airlines Flight to Paro. After completion airport formalities transfer to nearby restaurant for some refreshment and lunch.

Later start scenic drive to Bhutan’s capital, Thimphu, which is home to many attractions. Thimphu became a town in 1961 and grew as the capital of Bhutan. Earlier it was a small settlement and was developed by the King Jigme Dorje Wangchuk. Today the city sprawls across the western slopes of the Wang Chhu river valley, with several government offices located around Tashichoe dzong. It houses the seat of government and the office of His Majesty King Jigme Singey Wangchuk. There are lots of sightseeing attractions of which some of the highlights are the General post office, handicraft centre, national library etc.

Upon arrival check in at a hotel. Later in the evening visit Tashichhodzong, the beautiful medieval fortress/monastery which houses most of theGovernment’s office and King’s Throne room. It is also the summer residence of Je Khenpo, the Chief Abbot.

After breakfast start scenic 3 hours drive to Punakha crossing over the Dochula pass 3100 meters. Stop here to visit the 108 chortens and enjoy the panoramic view of Himalayas including highest Mountain of Bhutan M.t Gaser Punsum (7,520 m / 24,665 ft.).  The drive from the pass is all the way downhill dropping to the lower and warmer valleys of Lobesa for lunch.

After lunch take a short walk through farm houses and fields to Chimme Lhakhang. This monastery was built in the 15^th century and dedicated to the famous Lam Drukpa Kunley or divine mad man. He is one of the most famous saints in Bhutan and his temple is visited mostly by childless couples. Later after sightseeing transfer to hotel. Rest of the day is free for leisure.

After breakfast visit magnificent Punakha Dzong. It was built strategically at the junction of Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers in 1637 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal to serve as the religious and strative centre of the region; Punakha Dzong has played an important role in Bhutan’s history. Damaged by four catastrophic fires and an earthquake, the Dzong has been fully restored by the present King. It is one of the most beautiful Dzong in Bhutan. Later after sightseeing transfer to restaurant for lunch.

After lunch start drive to Phobjika valley at an altitude of 3000 m / 9,840 ft. Upon arrival check in at a hotel. Rest of the day is free for leisure enjoying the surrounding beauty.

After breakfast visit Gyangtey Gompa, the only Nyingmapa monastery in western Bhutan. After sightseeing tour start hike around the most beautiful Phobjika Valley – which is the home to the rare Black Necked Cranes migrating from the Tibetan plateau to escape the harsh winter. Currently there are about 300 cranes residing in this valley and the Royal Society for Protection of Nature (RSPN) is taking every measure to ensure the safety of the Cranes. While the cranes reside in the winter valley for 4/5 months the village folks are not allowed to make loud noises or fish in the river that runs through the valley. Spend the day exploring the fascinating glacier valley.

After lunch visit the local farm house to experience the traditional life style of Local Farmers. Later return back to hotel for some rest and refreshment.

Start the scenic drive crossing 3 passes over 3000 meters. The route offers magnificent views of the Himalayas and beautiful landscape through scattered hamlets and forests of rhododendrons and pine. We will pass through 18^th Century Chendebji Chorten en-route and stop in beautiful town Throunga- meaning new village. The town mainly consists of fresh Tibetan refugees but the most impressive of all is the Trongsa Dzong. The whole of eastern Bhutan was controlled from this fortress during the mid 17th century. Continue for 2 more hours to Bumthang. Upon arrival check in at hotel. Rest of the day is free for rest and relaxation.

The Nalakhar festival is held at the Ngaa Lhakhang in Nalakhar village in Bumthang. The three-day festival is one of the popular festivals in the Choekhor valley and attracts people from all over Bumthang, dressed in their finest clothes. This festival is celebrated to bring happiness and prosperity to the village and the country as a whole. It is also a symbolic prayer for good harvest and for the well being of everyone. Several mask dances are performed during the festival. It is also believed that the festival will bring happiness and better harvest to the entire community.

After breakfast proceed for a sightseeing tour Bumthang which has, an individuality that charms its visitors and separates it from other regions. Comprised of four smaller valleys, the deeply spiritual region of Bumthang is shrouded in religious legend. Here tales of Guru Padmasambhava and his re-incarnation known as Tertons still linger in most nooks and cranies. It is also known for its woolen material (yathra) which can be seen hung outside of houses for sale. The sightseeing tour includes a visit to the Jakar Dzong, 7th century Jambay Lhakhang, Kurjey monastery, Tamshing and Kunchosum monastery. This sightseeing is a round trip affair so it is more interesting if done on foot.

Am: After breakfast transfer through a beautiful valley to the watch tower or locally known as Ta-Dzong. It was housed into the National museum in the 1960s by the third King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck. The seven floors museum highlights various aspects of Bhutanese culture and history dating back to the 7th century. A short walk downhill to the Rinpung Dzong which serves as the administrative center and school for monks. Walk down crossing traditional old Bridge & proceed to Paro Town for lunch.

After lunch proceed to transfer to National Archery Ground to enjoy the Archery (Dha) Sport. The national sport is the Archery (Dha). The bow and arrow play a significant role in many Bhutanese myths and legends; images of the gods holding a bow and arrows are considered especially favorable.

Archery was declared the national sport in 1971 when Bhutan became a member of the United Nations. Bhutan also maintains an Olympic archery team. Archery tournaments and competitions are held throughout the country. Archery is played during religious and secular public holidays in Bhutan, local festivals (tsechu), between public ministries and departments, and between the dzongkhag and the regional teams.

Later on proceed for a sightseeing tour of ruined fortress of Drugyel dzong which still attracts visitors due to the strategic location of the fort.

After early breakfast, hike to Taktsang Monastery or the “Tiger’s Nest. The hike which is all the way uphill takes about 2 to 3 hours through villages and pine forests. The monastery which clings to a huge granite cliff 800 meters from the Paro valley was devastated by fire in 1998 but the Royal Government has taken immediate steps to restore the monastery to its original structure. It is believed that the great saint Padmasambhava came in the 7^th century on a flying tigress and meditated in a cave for 3 months. The demons were subdued who were trying to stop the spread of Buddhism and converted the Paro valley into Buddhism. During the end of the 17^th century a monastery was built on the spot where the saint meditated and it is a pilgrimage site for every Bhutanese to visit once in their life time. Later back to Resort for lunch. Rest of the day is free on your own for leisure.

Eve: The group will be given an introductory talk on Bhutan by a local expert depicting Country’s rich cultural heritage followed by speech by scholar about the Bhutanese Buddhism.
